Ib Bondebjerg is professor emeritus in The Department of Media, Cognition and Communication, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. He was founder and director of the Centre for Modern European Studies (2008-2011), Chairman of the Danish Research Council for the humanities (1993-1997), member Standing Committee for the Humanities and Social Sciences, European Science Foundation (1993-1997) and EUROHORCH (1995-1997), and chairman of The Danish Film Institute (1997-200). He is associate editor of the open access journal Palgrave Communications and co-editor of the book series Palgrave European Film and Media Studies. He was the co-director of the European research project Changing Media – Changing Europe (2000-2005), the research project Media and Democracy in the Network Society (2002-2006) and one of the three PI’s of the research project Mediating Cultural Encounters Through European Screens (2013-2016). His most recent books in English are: Media, Democracy and European Culture (2008, co-ed.), Engaging with Reality: Documentary and Globalization (2014), European Cinema and Television: Cultural Policy and Everyday Life (co-ed. 2015), and the forthcoming Transnational European Television Drama: Production, Genres and Audiences (2017)
