Svend Christensen holds an M.Sc in Agriculture (1988) and a Ph.D. (1993) from the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University in Copenhagen. As a researcher, he has coordinated 10 larger research projects prior to becoming Research Director of the Department of Agricultural Engineering under the Danish Institute of Agricultural Sciences in 2001. In 2008 he was appointed Professor and Head of Department of the Department of Plant and Environmentsal Sciences at the University of Copenhagen.

Professional Affiliations
Currently Svend Christensen chairs the Master Subject Area group 'Site Specific Weed Management' of the European Weed Research Society (EWRS) and is also member of the EWRS scientific committee, as well as coordinating the Nordic Plant Phenotyping Network (NPPN). He is also member of the board of editors of Journal of Precision Agriculture. Svend Christensen was a member of the Danish Research Council for Technology and Production from 2007 to 2013.
