Primary fields of research
My research addresses agrarian transformation in the Global South, primarily examined through the analytical lens of global value chains (GVCs). My PhD study is examining domestic food value chains of selected vegetables in Thailand and how transformations in these spurred by emergence and diffusion of modern food retailers affect development at the local level. This includes socio-economic and environmental implications at producer-level as well as for other actors along the value chains. Based on a mixed-methods approach, I have carried out fieldwork in the North and central parts of Thailand. I am also teaching courses on globalization and local development/special changes in the Global South.
