Kell Mortensen is professor emeritus at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen. Kell Mortensen obtained his Ph.D. in physics from DTU in 1981, was post doc. at the IBM Research Center in New York 1980-81, and DTU 1981-83. He got affiliated with the Physics Department at Risoe National Laboratory in 1983. At Risoe Kell Mortensen was responsible for the construction of and the science at the small-angle neutron scattering facility; co-founder of the Danish Polymer Centre jointly with DTU, and co-founder of the ESS-Scandinavia initiative. In 2007 he joined the University of Copenhagen, where he has been co-founder of the centres for Synthetic Biology, bioSYNergy, and CoNeXT. Kell Mortensen has been Head of Sections, and Chair of the PhD-School at SCIENCE, UCPH.
Kell Mortensen's main Research interests lie within the borderline between physics, materials science and biology. He has published more than 410 papers in international journals and books, including papers in high impact journals as Nature, Science and Physical Review Letters. The papers have been cited more than 19.000 times, H-Index 72. Kell Mortensen has given more than 100 invited presentations at international conferences, summer schools and institutions. Kell Mortensen is / has been member of a number of national and international science committees and councils, including chair of the board of Danish National Research Foundation, the Danish Research Council (FNU-chair), the Danish Committee for Research Infrastructure, the Nordic Joint Council for Natural Science, the European Research Council, the European Spallation Source Scandinavia, the Danish Physical Society and Danish and the European Neutron Scattering Associations.
