My PhD project concerns the Fermi gas with point interactions. It is a known result that the Bose gas with point interactions and positive scattering length is unstable. However, due to the Pauli exclusion principle, it is expected that the point interacting Fermi gas will exhibit stability, a result that is also experimentally substantiated. This stability is, however, not mathematically well understood, i.e. it has not been shown that the model of this gas is in fact described by a self-adjoint bounded from below Hamiltonian. It is the goal of my project to study this gas and give a proof of stability in the most general case.
