Anders Wivel

Professor

Primary fields of research

1) Foreign policy, in particular the foreign and security policies of small European states

2) European integration and security, in particular the exercise of power politics and the role of small states in the EU

3) International Relations theory, in particular the realist tradition.

In addition, my research interests include geopolitics, international security, the transatlantic relationship and globalisation.

My research seeks to advance our understanding of how power politics is being transformed in the Euro-Atlantic area and how this transformation affects both the challenges and opportunities of small states. In general my work engages strongly with the realist perspective on international relations, and my research publications include purely theoretical work as well as in-depth theoretically informed empirical analyses based on a variety of written sources and interviews.

Member of the Department of Political Science research group on International Relations and Centre for Advanced Security Theory (CAST). Cooperates on a regular basis with Centre for Military Studies (CMS).
