N2 - The aim of the present study is to explore the process of grammaticalization of the French form voilà as a discourse marker over a period ranging from pre-classical French to contemporary French. The methodology is rooted in the functionalist approach (cf. Nørgård-Sørensen, Heltoft & Schøsler 2011), according to which grammar is conceived of as composed of sets of paradigms. My results suggest a continuous progression of voilà as discourse marker from modern French onwards, first in initial position, then in final position and finally in an inserted position. I interpret this as a regrammation process of voilà as a discourse marker. My analyses show that voilà as a discourse marker is ahead of the other discourse markers, and its seems to be on its way to become the unmarked member of the paradigm.
