Anne Grapin-Botton has a background in developmental biology and initially studied nervous system and endoderm patterning. Her laboratory is currently focused on pancreas development with the aim of understanding how pancreatic cells differentiate during embryogenesis and how pancreatic islets form during development. The Grapin-Botton lab also aim to determine what limits the pancreatic cells’ regeneration in adults. The long term medical purpose is to use such information to generate replacement cells for patients suffering from diabetes and to understand how impaired pancreatic development may cause diabetes.
More specifically, Professor Grapin-Botton and her group investigate the impact of the cellular and organ architecture on the cells’ fate choices, especially the role of the planar cell polarity pathway and its interactions with canonical Wnt signaling.
