Under the preliminary title ’Reading constraints: the co-authoring role of censorship in Russian modernist literature’, my project aims to explore the relation between postrevolutionary Russian modernist literature and early Soviet censorship.
The project is partly devoted to a concrete analysis of the influence of the factual apparatus and mechanisms of censorship and other related forms of constraints on the various versions of censored literature, including a mapping of which versions have been chosen for academic analysis, publication, and translation. In addition, these concrete cases are both framed by theories of censorship, authorship/authoring and interpretation, and serve as a basis for critical discussions of such.
