I am professor of political ecology at the Global Development section, Department of Food and Resource Economics. I am part of the independent researcher-based ‘Klima- og Omstillingsrådet’ that contributes to Danish debates on climate and green transformation from an interdisciplinary and justice-based perspective.

Primary fields of research

My research concerns inequality, justice and knowledge hierarchies in the context of socio-environmental change including how our understanding environmental change and drivers of such change is inevitably political. Empirically I have worked on forestry, conservation, rural development and climate change.

Current research

I am presently involved in research on the politics of environment and development interventions, specifically forest-based carbon removal and negative emissions technologies in the context of climate mitigation.

Teaching

I am course responsible for the courses ‘Environmental Justice’, ‘Political Ecology’ and teach global climate governance and strategies for change in the course ‘Climate Change Impacts, Adaptation and Mitigation’

Possible conflicts of interest

Through my research, teaching and societal engagement activities, I often collaborate with and/or give invited talks and offer advice to public agencies, companies and civil society groups. I serve in an advisory group for the Danish NGO ‘Forests of the World’. In none of these cases do I personally receive remuneration.
