Vibrational averaging of NMR and ESR properties with VPT2: how far have we come?

The theory and calculation of vibrational corrections to ground state molecular properties of molecules will be discussed [1]. The importance of these corrections will be illustrated with examples for isotope effects and the temperature dependence of NMR indirect nuclear spin-spin coupling constants [2,3,4,5,6]. The level of theory in the electronic structure theory calculations will be discussed and illustrated with recent calculations of NMR spin-spin coupling constants at the CCSD level [6,7,8]. Finally preliminary results for vibrational corrections to ESR hyperfine coupling constants will be presented [8,9].
