When politicians and authorities talk about integration and language acquisition, they base it on a nearly 50 -year-old perspective on motivation, that for many reasons can be criticized for not being suitable to describe the motives to learn the Danish language and culture that newly arrived citizens has. The presentation will introduce newer ideas in motivation research that can provide educators and other professionals some other tools to meet new citizens in situations where motivation is a factor.
