Coaching has changed through its history: From tutoring of students to an intervention in sports, to – in the 1990ies - a “Trojan horse” for professional and organizational development before psychology and coaching has become an accepted domain in business life. Recently, coaching moves forward inspiring dialogues in health, education and community work. Coaching has always changed because of the changes and the further development in our social life and because of new demands in society.
The intention of this lecture is to highlight some of the major challenges in social and organizational life and to draw some conclusions in the form of visions and wishes for the future development of coaching and other practices of transformational dialogues.
One of the main challenges for the future is to revitalize social capital and intensify collaborative practices in organization and social life. In the future, coaching and leadership need to be based on a relational and responsive dialogues and on processes of collaborative meaning making, based on values that are driver for sustainable actions.
In the focus of the are the lecture are following core competences:
• Understanding coaching as a professional dialogue in changing time.
• Remaining aware of and open to the influence of social and organisational context and culture on self and others.
• Reflecting on and reconsidering the coach-coachee relationship as central element of coaching
• Demonstrating openness and transparency as a way to display vulnerability and build trust with the client.
