N2 - Several viruses encode chemokine elements in their genome. This review focuses on the roles of such elements in the ongoing battle between the virus and the host. The biological and pharmacological characterizations of several of these chemokine elements have highlighted their importance in the mammalian immune system for antiviral responses and suggested future antiviral and anti-inflammatory therapeutic strategies.
