Karen Blixens Plads 16, 2300 København S, Søndre Campus, Building: 6A.4.05
Matthijs's research focuses on the safe and beneficial governance of emerging technologies, specifically artificial intelligence. At the CILCC, he works on the project on 'Law and Policy on Global Catastrophic and Existential Threats.
His research involves (1) a legal analysis of the possible goals underpinning governance regimes on anthropogenic existential risk--and how these might trade off risks of catastrophes with risks of 'flawed realization'; (2) a study of the requirements and pitfalls of international regimes for technology non-proliferation or differential development, and the conditions under which these are successful and legitimate under the broader criteria explored under (1).
