The primary research area of the Ph.d. project is obesity in cats, how it is estimated and the change in adipokine production in muscle and adipose tissue associated with obesity. The changes are measured locally in muscle and fat tissue and systemically by the analysis of blood samples. Focus in the Ph.d. project is to characterize the changes in adipokines and characterize a possible low grade inflammation which might ultimately lead to type 2 diabetes in cats.
