Research focus

Ligand-gated ion channels (LGICs) are membrane proteins that couple chemical signals with electrical excitation of cells like neurons. I study LGIC evolution, function and pharmacology, using molecular biology and electrophysiology. I am also interested in engineering LGICs for chemogenetic tools in dissecting neuronal circuitry.
