KU Geopolitics has launched a new collaboration—with Ukraine House in Denmark.
Together with the Center for Modern European Studies (CEMES) and HUM:Global, Ukraine House in Denmark and KU Geopolitics have launched a free series of events under the title “Ukraine’s European History.”

Here, renowned researchers from both the University of Copenhagen and a number of foreign universities focus on aspects of Ukrainian history that are intertwined with European history. Among other things, they do this by examining how Ukrainian nationality, identity, language, and culture have evolved.

In “Ukraine’s European History,” the event series traces the broad historical trends while also delving into individual perspectives. Drawing on several centuries of history, the book examines, for example, the development of Ukrainian identity and nationality over time—from early traditions of self-governance to the 19th and 20th centuries, when issues of language, identity, political representation, and national belonging became increasingly central. Furthermore, the event series takes a close look at the influence the Soviet regime had not only on Ukraine’s borders, but also on Ukrainian institutions and everyday life in general.

The first events in the series are:

  • Ukraine's European History: Nationhood in the Age of Empires
    – October 8, 2026
  • Ukraine's European History: Ukraine in the Soviet Century
    – November 5, 2026

We look forward to announcing even more events in the series.
