My research focuses on cycling of organic compounds by microbial populations in natural and humane-created ecosystems. In recent projects the following activities are studied:
- Ecological function of actinomycetes and their off-taste production in natural environments, water reservoirs and aquacultures, including production and degradation of geosmin and MIB.
- Utilization and production of urea, purines, amino acid isomers, proteins and bacterial cell wall components by natural populations of microorganisms.
- Relations between natural microbial diversity, viruses and cycling of specific nitrogen compounds.
