Architect and postdoctoral researcher Mohammed Almahmood’s expertise is at the interface between urban planning and people-oriented design in the context of smart city information technology. He balances the opportunities provided by state-of-the-art information technology and urban data management with a humanist agenda to plan and design great places for people.
He studied architecture and urban design at Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University in Saudi Arabia, Washington University in St. Louis, and the University of Copenhagen. He has over 10 years of professional experience in the real estate planning and finance sector, and architectural practice in Saudi Arabia, the United States and Denmark.
Working with GPS technology and simulation modelling, his current research focus is on developing methods to quantify and qualify spatial behaviour of individuals in large and complex communities. In urban design practice Mohammed has planned and executed comprehensive mobility and quality of life-related surveys working with university communities of up to 15,000 students, faculty, and staff in North America and Denmark.
He has published peer-reviewed articles and won several international awards for his research-oriented urban design projects.
