My research concerns visual and aesthetic cultures focusing on bodily, experience-based forms of expression and (self)representation, with particular attention to disabled embodiment and identity formation in media and popular culture. My work on this is located within critical and cultural disability studies, crip and queer feminist theory and methodology, cultural studies, visual culture, feminist media studies, visual and dialogic communication, arts-based research methods, and (auto)ethnography.

In the Department of Arts and Cultural Studies, I teach and advise MA students from Visual Culture and Art History on topics such as selfie cultures, photo sharing on social media, and visual (self-)branding. In addition, I am co-leader and member of the cross-divisional Art & Health research cluster.

I am also part of a number of interdisciplinary and cross-institutional networks and collaborations, including the Bevica Foundation’s research network Universal Design Hub and the editorial board of the research journal Women, Gender & Research.
