My research is founded in the synthetic biology disciplines of protein engineering and metabolic engineering. I have particular experience in engineering eukaryotic cytochrome P450 enzymes in classical microbiology workhorses such as E. coli and S. cerevisiae, and also in engineering gas-fermenting clostridia for industrial deployment.
Currently I have two main research interests: 1) developing membrane-anchored protein scaffolds for colocalising membrane-associated enzymes and for manipulating membrane architechtures, and 2) engineering of leaves and plastids.
