I'm writing my PhD on the Rhetoric of Science and scientific ethos with a special focus on climate science and scientist activism, with Associate Professor Kristine Marie Berg as my supervisor. Prior to my employment at the Department of Communication I worked with science communication at the Technical University of Denmark and Videnskab.dk. My research interests reach far and wide, and apart from the Rhetoric of Science I'm also interested in climate rhetoric, social movement rhetoric and activism, critical rhetoric, political rhetoric, and debate.
I seek to integrate my research work into my public dissemination efforts - and vice versa. That science and society co-produce one another is a red thread through my dissertation and in my way of doing research generally.
Some of the activities I have been engaged in during my enrollment as PhD Fellow are:
- The rhetorical dimensions of the climate and ecological crisis, including communication of climate science through social mocements and activism. This is the central theme of my dissertation, “Anthropocene Conjunctions: Scientific Ethos and Activism in the Climate and Ecological Emergency”.
- Interdisciplinary climate and environmental research initiatives, including establishing a cross-disciplinary network for climate change knowledge for PhD students in Denmark and article publication with a number of life scientists about their field's strategies in the climate and ecological crisis.
- Polemical rhetoric in an argumentation theory perspective, especially philosopher of science Paul Feyerabend's polemical thinking in his classic Against Method from 1975.
- The Danish-American character of populism in our current political environment. I have especially worked with Inger Støjberg's rhetoric as an expression of a specifically American import of populism.
- The debate about the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. Here I have contributed to discussing the possible effects of a cultural boycott by reviewing scholarship in this area.
My approach to research and dissemination is open and critical.
