Primary fields of research

The main topics of my research are biomechanics and motor control of human walking including healthy and clinical aspects. One branch of my research is focused on very basic aspects of human walking. Another branch is focused on the function of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and knee joint stability. The aim is to elucidate biomechanical and neuromuscular responses to injuries of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). We know that ACL deficient patients compensate differently for their injury; some patients compensate well and are able to participate in pre-injury activities despite their injury (copers) while others are not (non-copers). The exact mechanisms for these differences are still unknown and stimulate my ongoing research.
