The Neolithic, Neolithic art, the third millennium BC, the Middle Neolithic, the Late Neolithic, earliest Bronze Age, material and cultural boundaries, continuity and change, cultural diversity and identity  

Current research

  • Various aspects of Neolithic art based on finds from the rich Vasagård site on Bornholm, Denmark. The site holds a large number of unique Neolithic images in the form of engraved shale and sandstone plaques (so-called ‘sunstones’) in addition to the earliest rock art (cup marks) known from southern Scandinavia.
  • The Mesolithic-Neolithic transition in northern Europe and associated migration patterns.
  • Introduction of Indo-European languages in the North European Neolithic. Research collaboration with Guus Kroonen, Department of Nordic Studies and Linguistics.
  • The Pitted Ware culture in Scandinavia, part of an international and interdisciplinary research project funded by the Velux foundation: CONTACT. The Pitted Ware Phenomenon in Djursland and Maritime Relations Across the Kattegat in the Middle Neolithic
