1987: M. Sc. in Engineering, Chemistry from the Technical University of Denmark.

1990: Ph.D. from Department of Microbiology, Technical University of Denmark.

1990-95: Postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Genetics, Stanford University, Stanford, California, US.

1995- 1997: Associate research professor at Department of Food Science, KVL, Denmark

1998 - 2004: Associate professor at the Dept. of Veterinary Pathobiology, KVL studying stress response and virulence in bacterial pathogens.

2004 -: Professor at the Department of Veterinary Pathobiology, University of Copenhagen in Microbial Food safety and Hygiene.

Scientific management and funding:

· Scientific management of several large-scale research projects since 1999. Total funding for research obtained since 1999 exceeds 20 mill DKK.

· Research area and work package leader in the European 6th framwork Integrated project, Biotracer coordinated by Jeffrey Hoorfar.

· Member of the Research and Innovation Committee at the Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Copenhagen (2007-).

· Member (2003-) and chairman of the steering committee of the Microbial Food Network (2005-) in Centre for Advanced Food Studies (LMC) and responsible for arranging the Annual Microbial Food Symposium with more than 50 participants as well as invited guest speakers.

· Member of the scientific committee of the Conference FoodMicro 2010, Copenhagen with more than 600 expected participants

· Co-editor of Microbiology published by Society for General Microbiology, UK (2007-)

· Co-editor of International Food Microbiology published by the International Union of Microbiological Societies (2007-)

· Head and manager of the section Microbial Food Safety, Institute for Veterinary Pathobiology, University of Copenhagen.

· April 2006-January 2007 head of “Faggruppen” Microbiology within Department of Veterinary Pathobiology, University of Copenhagen with more than 60 employees.

· Member of the administrative and scientific board at the Department of Veterinary Pathobiology (2002-2004).

I have supervised more than 23 B.Sc. and M.Sc. students to graduation and has followed 4 Ph.D. students to graduation and currently is supervisior of two PhD students and co-supervisor of three PhD students. The students have been in the areas of biotechnology, molecular microbiology, food science and food safety and have been following the curricula of veterinary science, food science and the science program in biotechnology.

I have been member of more than 20 PhD evaluating committees at University of Copenhagen, The Technical University of Denmark, University of Aarhus, University of Southern Denmark, Odense and University of Roskilde as well as at University of Lund, Sweden, University College, Cork, Ireland and University of Helsinki, Finland.
