As part of its endeavours to make the most of its academic diversity, and to provide input into public debate on important social issues, the University of Copenhagen has identified areas of research in which it is particularly strong. All of these areas address major challenges facing society today, e.g. health and the environment, and they call for solutions that involve collaboration between public authorities, business and industry and the University.
In January 2013, the University of Copenhagen's Excellence Programme for Interdisciplinary Research awarded grants to 18 projects. To date, the programme has spent almost half a billion kroner promoting closer interdisciplinary research collaboration at the University.
